Circuit des Remparts 2025

Race

The Circuit des Remparts was first held in 1939, using the medieval ramparts and streets of Angoulême as a natural racecourse. After World War II, the event returned in 1947 and quickly gained prestige, attracting legendary drivers such as Fangio, Maurice Trintignant, and Raymond Sommer. Although it paused for some years, the race was revived in the late 1970s and has since evolved into one of Europe’s most celebrated historic motorsport festivals, blending heritage with thrilling competition.

Every September, the city of Angoulême transforms into a festival dedicated to classic cars and motorsport. The 1.279 km circuit remains virtually unchanged since its creation, winding around tight city corners and historic walls. The weekend begins with the elegant Concours d’Élégance on Friday evening, where beautifully restored vintage cars are presented alongside period-dressed participants, creating a unique celebration of style and history.

Saturday is devoted to rallies through the scenic Charente countryside, where participants take their cars on picturesque tours and stops at regional landmarks. Meanwhile, competitions such as restoration contests and vehicle exhibitions fill the streets, turning the city into a living museum of automotive culture. On Sunday, the highlight of the event unfolds as historic racing cars roar back onto the circuit, competing in multiple classes from morning to evening, bringing the charm and excitement of motorsport’s golden age to life.
